Hello

All tongue tie care is given by me, Rochelle Williams. I have a 1st Class Bsc (hons) degree in Midwifery, I'm a practicing midwife working for the NHS and I'm registered with the NMC. You can find me on the register by searching my name or PIN 20G0505E. I am registered with the Association of Tongue Tie Practitioners after completing a Postgraduate Credit in Advanced Clinical Skills in Tongue Tie with The University of Wolverhampton. I have completed extensive breastfeeding education with Breastfeeding London to be able to provide the follow up support you need. CQC registration and Insurance is covered by Private Midwives.

About me

My personal experience with tongue tie is what drove me to set up as an independent practitioner. I'm a mother of three children and have had very different postnatal experiences with them all. My first child struggled with breastfeeding and we had very little support. I wasn't a midwife at the time and didn't know much about breastfeeding, I'd never heard of tongue ties and no-one mentioned them to me. I stopped breastfeeding after two weeks because of the pain, cracked nipples and the problems my son had with latching. It is something I still feel sad about now. I now know he has a tongue tie that likely caused or at least contributed to our problems. He is still dealing with issues caused by tongue tie and I feel let-down that what could have been dealt with by a simple procedure when he was a baby is now a long road of therapies to correct the problems tongue tie has caused.

I armed myself with knowledge and support when I was pregnant with my second child and she breastfed like a dream for over three years.

When I had my third child I was a qualified midwife and having breastfed a child confidently I felt well prepared to do it again. Immediately after birth we knew something wasn't right. She would scream for most feeds, fuss and struggle to latch. On day 3 she'd lost more weight than she should have. I had great support and a very knowledgeable infant feeding professional assessed her and found a posterior tongue tie causing our problems. I fed with nipple shields for a while and when she was two weeks old we had her tie cut. Our problems disappeared (along with the nipple shields) within a couple of days and started a positive breastfeeding experience for us both. I couldn't believe the difference such a simple, quick procedure could make and I was inspired to provide this service so that, whether breast or bottle feeding, families could enjoy feeding their babies and to prevent problems associated with tongue tie in older children and adults.

I know how important it is that you feel you are making the right choice for your baby. I am very patient and happy to take my time answering questions until you are comfortable with whatever decision you make. I understand that every baby and family will have different needs and I am happy to discuss these with you to make sure your experience is as stress-free as it can be.
